Etosha II

We went to Etosha National Park again this weekend. I could go there every single day and never get bored- it's so cool! René wants me to do a post listing all the animals we have seen so far, but I think I'm going to leave that to him since I won't be able to remember all of the names! But I finally figured out how to distinguish an impala from a springbok.
On our way into the park we saw a cute little jackal, we actually saw quite a few of these throughout the day. On our last Etosha trip we didn't see any up close. Later in the day we spotted a jackal near the camp and it was definitely rabid. He looked in pretty rough shape and he was acting "erratically." Anyway, we steered clear of that one, but here's the first (non rabid) jackal that we saw. He was just next to the road, very close.
We had an eventful trip into the park, because just after entering through the gate, we saw this HUGE Saddle-billed Stork. They are the largest storks in Africa and are 5-6 feet tall and can weigh as much as 20 pounds!

Now, I don't want to mislead anyone here, we usually see all these animals from really close distances. However, this rhino was quite far away as you can see by the picture. But it was impressive nonetheless! We were watching a waterhole from a lookout tower and René spotted him. Very cool. (We later tried to track him down to get a closer view, but he was pretty well hidden in the brush, so we didn't find him.)
Then there was this huge lizard. Can you even call this a lizard? It's more like an alligator. He was walking across the road (really slowly), so we almost hit him! Come to think of it, this time there were a lot of animals on (or near) the road! I'll post more pictures tomorrow (hopefully).
