I know Josh (my Chicago roommate) is reading our blog, so I have to do a bird post. René and I have always been into birds. While neither of us is particularly great at identifying birds, we like to check them out and since we’ve been here we’ve taken quite a few bird pictures. Both of us are notorious for making up bird names. On the way back from Cleveland to Chicago (from visiting Nicole and Sharad) we stopped at a bird sanctuary and made up the names for all the birds we saw (Oh, I think that was the rare Whooping Crane! And that was an Indigo Bunting. While we realize these are actual bird names, they are not the names of the birds that we actually saw.). Anyway, since it is the rainy season we have seen some great birds!
This is a Purple Roller. It's hard to see, but his chest and the area below his wings is bright purple.

And this is a European Bee-eater, caught here eating a bee!

These are the bee-eater’s nests.

Check out this guy (Marabou Stork) eating a frog!

Two Lilac-breasted rollers.

And this is a cute little Blacksmith lapwing.
Well, we have tons more bird pictures, but I don’t have the patience to upload any more photos! Josh, let me know if I’ve improperly identified any of these birds!
Sorry for the three posts in a row. (Scroll down for the other two.) I haven't had internet for a few days and I've been saving these three posts for when I got internet!!
ReplyDeleteI want to live in a house that looks like the European Bee Eaters nest!
