To gloss over what was in fact a slightly frustrating lead-up to our departure, we were delayed due to "Snowpocalypse 2011" in Chicago but finally did get away only 1 day behind schedule. We then undertook the following itinerary over the next 24 hours or so:
- Chicago to Washington DC - 2hr flight + 2 hr layover
- Washington DC to Dakar, Senegal - 8hr flight + 1hr "technical stop" during which half the passengers deplaned but as we were flying on we weren't allowed off.
- Dakar to Johannesburg - 8hr flight + 1hr layover
- Johannesburg to Windhoek - 2 hr flight
Speaking of the guesthouse, we are back at the one that I had stayed at last time and enjoyed thoroughly; Pension Bougain Villa (http://www.pensionbougainvilla.com/). We are scheduled to be here for a few days before heading up north.
So aside from a quick walk to a nearby pharmacy and grocery store, we are generally just resting and getting a bit settled. This will go much easier when we get a full change of clothes, but overall we are happy to have arrived.
I am sooo glad you are doing this---how cool to feel a part of this journey!! Over!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you left behind all this snow---what is the temp there--you have to include that everyday!
I loved your wedding blog too--you've perked all of us up as we endure a long winter---so much to look forward to!--good luck on your adventure!
Over!
love you both
Have you found any jobs for me - chiropractor to the giraffes? It is on my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of Ashley walking past the church.
You must be exhausted after all that flying but now you can be on the adventure. I really appreciate the link to Wikipedia and I am reading up on Namibia right now. So excited to hear from you. This is better than the Super Bowl (for me). (Or is it Superbowl?)
