Less than one month!

René and I will be back home in less than one month (May 3rd is the date of our official arrival back to the States)! We are really excited for this for several reasons, one of which is that we're getting married one month after we arrive in Wisconsin!! I can not wait!! I thought I would just make a list of things we are looking forward to when we get back.

Looking forward to:
-Tacos!
-Being able to run anytime, anyplace with out having to worry about lions, cattle, dogs, etc.
-Blending in
-Walking/driving when it's dark out
-Cooking and having an actual kitchen
-Talking on the phone
-No longer thinking about getting malaria
-Driving without worrying about hitting a donkey, goat, cow, dog, or person
-The general level of cleanliness at home!
-Also, the general level of organization

And one thing I will NOT miss about Oshakati is Scary Dog.

So, we will be home in less than one month! One other announcement, in case you have not yet heard: I have just confirmed my spot in the University of Michigan's School of Public Health Program for this fall (2011)!!! So, René and I will be moving to Ann Arbor sometime this summer! We are really looking forward to being settled somewhere for at least two years. We've been traveling back and forth and living temporarily in places for over a year now. It will be nice to live in one place and take advantage of all Ann Arbor has to offer!

  2. Congrats Ash!! That is super exciting. Ann Arbor, eh? Guess I will be seeing Ann Arbor in the near future ;) Exciting! Oh and about tacos... Lauren and I still talk about how good those tacos were close to your place in Montreal. We havent found a good taco joint in Calgary. Enjoy your last days and soak it all up (well maybe not the scary dog) because they are memories that last forever (cheesy but true). Cant wait to see you both!

  3. Thanks Kathleen! We are quite excited! Congrats to you on your upcoming move and Paul's new job!

And Matt- Mmmmmmmm tacos!! We definitely miss Montreal for several reasons, one of which is those tacos!! If you and Lauren end up coming to Chicago in June we'll show you a Mexican place that rivals that one. Anyway, can't wait to see you guys either!

  5. Holy Majoly, Ash! Congratulations. What an adventure in extremes ... the heart of Africa to the heart of America! By the end of 2 years you'll be back to "gosh" and all done with "quite" ... though I hope not because I quite love that word :D

  6. Can I make you and Rene tacos for dinner and you can tell me all about your adventures? My refried beans are the best. Can't wait to hear your stories and I have so loved your blog. It is like a dream to think you saw those animals up close.

  7. Aunt M,
We will never say no to tacos!! We are excited to come over once the jet lag subsides and tell you all about our trip!
And it is a bit sad that we're leaving Africa in just one week! I'm sure our adventures in Ann Arbor will be a little less blog picture worthy than the ones we've had here!
